MR-16 V – the calibratable, portable CCD-based micro-spectrometer with storage battery, memory, and touch display
Gundersheim, 25 March 2015. Wammes & Partner, a German light technology company, have launched MR-16 V4, a portable CCD-based high-end micro-spectrometer. Powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, the device has a size of only 148 x 96 x 35 millimeters and a weight of 550 grams. Using the included small integrating sphere or, in alternative configurations of the device, an optical fiber SMA905 input, the MR-16 V4 allows a variety of on-site measuring operations in visible light with wavelengths between 380 and 780 nanometers. Until now, these measurements were very time-consuming and confined to dedicated laboratories. MR-16 V4 measures at a resolution of 4.2 to 5 nanometers FWHM, with an integration time of 1 millisecond to 24 seconds, an SNR value below 0.3 per cent and a spectral distortion of 0.12 per cent.
MR-16 V4 is based on a MEMS spectrochip for capturing the photons, coupled with a linear CCD converting the photons into electrons. The digitized signal is processed by the integrated micro-computer and visualized on a multi-color touch-display. MR-16 V4 is equipped with internal memory for some 2000 measuring operations. Further data can be saved on a Micro SD card and also exported using the USB port.
MR-16 V4 can be used as a universal tool for quickly checking systems during operation, but also for quality control in manufacturing as well as tests in research environments. It is capable of spectral measurement, luminance measurement, color distribution analysis according to both CIE 1931 and CIE 1976, spectral analysis, analysis of color rendering values according to CRI and CQS, and analysis of color consistency according to SDCM (McAdam). Furthermore, MR-16 V4 can be calibrated for various parameters, such as lumen, lux, distance, PPF, etc.
MR-16 V4 is suitable for a wide range of light-related measurements required in fields such as lighting technology, display technology, automotive, medicine, architecture, energy consulting, chemistry, and biology. Two versions of the measuring device are equipped with dedicated software for additional tasks: MR-16 V4-BINS supports the sorting of LED light sources according to color, known as binning. The MR-16 V4 PPF version’s additional functionality is measuring the photosynthetic photon density. This helps users in the field of plant breeding with tasks such as optimizing light conditions in a greenhouse for optimum growth. Customers choose the version and preferred software configuration when ordering.
Wammes & Partner have developed the MR-16 V4 micro-spectrometer in cooperation with their worldwide network of technology partners. The experts also serve as a one-stop shop for customer-specific add-ons, updates, specialized accessories, and calibration services. In order to optimise access to the wide range of potential users, Wammes & Partner distribute the device both through their subsidiary Global LightZ, specializing in light technology, as well as the display-focused subsidiary i-sft. Depending on the version, MR-16 V4 can now be ordered from both companies at an introductory net price of 3450 euros.
